The Subiaco Colts have recorded an emphatic finals win over the Perth Demons at Steel Blue Oval.

The 42 point victory was set up by an explosive first quarter where the Lions kicked nine goals with a favourable breeze.

A solid performance defensively helped maintain this lead for the entirety of the game; with the Demons never looking likely.

Rhys McAlister starred on his return for the Lions with four goals in the first half; joined by partner in crime Ryan Vermeersch who slotted three.

Joshua Deluca, Connor Wilkinson, Greg Clark and Joseph Scafidi were prolific in a rampant midfield that created 15-6 scoring shots in the first half.

Head Coach Steve Armstrong was happy with his young chargers efforts; making note of their impressive first quarter and the teams preparation.

“The start really pleased us. When you get off to a good start in finals it’s always pleasing. We went through some extra preparation of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday training session with a Friday recovery which payed off; and the boys went out switched on to play finals football.  The mindset of the boys was brilliant. “ said Armstrong

The Lions kicked with a slight breeze in the first; but the explosive start came down to decision making for Armstrong.

"Captain Declan Jackson won the toss and opted for the slight breeze. But it came down to our ability to get it into a dangerous spot and then push it into an even more dangerous spot. Our forwards were able to read the flight of the ball better than our back-men and we made the most of our opportunities."

Now the Colts will go into a preliminary final against Claremont with oodles of momentum after a solid four quarter performance.

"It’s important to have a strong mental aptitude of be able to maintain the momentum. It was pleasing to see we never relinquished the intensity and did the basics well; so we’ll hopefully carry that on to next week."

GAME CHANGERS

BIG GAME PLAYERS:
The Lions needed some big performances to get over the third placed Demons today; and there was one from every portion of the field. Senior players Ryan Vermeersch, Joshua Deluca and Declan Jackson were standouts for the Lions; lifting their side with their actions. Vermeersch finished with 25 disposals and two goals, Deluca finished with 31 disposals and six inside 50’s and captain Jackson finished with 20 disposals and numerous spoils as the rock down back.

FIRST QUARTER FRENETICS:
What better time to produce the best first quarter of the season than in an elimination final. The Lions came out of the block firing; opening up the Demons with swift movement and clinical skills to kick a season high nine goals in a quarter.

INJURY CONCERNS:
The Lions were managing a host of injury concerns during the final with Antoine Garlett (hamstring), Michael Wood (ankle) and Hayden Kennedy (sickness) all carefully managed during the game. Although injuries sidelined Garlett and Wood for a majority of the second half Armstrong believes they are just minor.

“Anton might have tweaked his hamstring again and Michael Wood was being managed throughout the game but both injuries look on the minor side. We’ll look to have them back for next week.”
