Four goals from lively forward Rhys McAlister has helped lift the Colts to a 19 point win over East Perth at Medibank Stadium.

The game loomed as a must win for the young Lions; who were battling to stay in finals contention after losing four games in a row.

The Colts rose to the occasion; despite trailing for a majority of the first half; pulling out a clinical resurgence on the back of key performances from Rhys McAlister (Four Goals) Ryan Vermeersch (22 disposals), Joseph Scafidi (19 disposals), Andrew Vawser (22 disposals), Connor Wilkinson (19 disposals) and Aaron Summers (25 disposals).

Coach Steve Armstrong would be impressed with his midfields work-rate around contests; dominating clearances even though Subi was thoroughly beaten in the hit-outs 25-42.

TALKING POINTS

GOAL SPREAD:
The Lions no longer rely on one key forward to do all the heavy lifting; with the win against East Perth showing the squad that are capable of kicking goals from everywhere. Although Rhys McAlisters four goals were crucial; you feel the Lions work the ball well enough into the 50 to create opportunities regardless.

VERMEERSCH THE ROVER:
Often used as a stay at home forward; Ryan Vermeersch was given more freedom against the Royals. This proved to work wonders on the utility as he went on to collect his biggest disposal tally of the season. Vermeersch broke his form slump by adapting to the new position and creating crucial link up play on the half-forward line. Head Coach Steve Armstrong will surely look at playing Vermeersch in a similar role in their Round 22 clash with the Thunder.

KENNEDY CURSE:
Key midfielder Hayden Kennedy suffered another injury set-back against the Royals; re-injuring his troublesome ankle early in the game. Although Kennedy missed a majority of the game; medical staff have cleared the gritty midfielder of any damage and expect him to return against Peel Thunder after the bye.
