Back in Blue
- Thursday, 18 July 2013
The Lions will once again trade in the maroon and gold for their eye catching cyan blue jumper, this time against rivals Claremont at Medibank Stadium in round 19. The Lions again team up with QBE to celebrate the club’s 29-year partnership with QBE Insurance as their major sponsor.
The Lions will also be celebrating the 25-year reunion of the 1988 Premiership team that beat Claremont by 62 points. Who could forget Mick Lee efforts in winning the Simpson Medal, Laurie Keene dominating the ruck and John Georgiades booting six goals.
On match day our ‘QBE Kids Zone’ will be up and running, located at the South end of the ground. The ‘QBE kids Zone’ will feature our friends from Jungle Sports who’ll run sporting activities, Players from the Subiaco District will be testing the skills of youngsters, plus you’ll find Perth Glory’s inflatable field hosting games of footy. On top of that there will be loads of prizes and giveaways throughout the day.
Subiaco CEO Peter Capes said the day is about honouring QBE’s long-term support of the club and celebrating 25 years since the 1988 Premiership team.
“It’s very important to the Subiaco Football Club that we recognise this partnership and the QBE game is that opportunity. We are also pleased to celebrate the 25 year reunion of the 1988 premiership team.”
The QBE partnership, established in the 1980’s to help ease financial struggles for the club at the time, has since endured to become the longest standing partnership in WAFL football. QBE played a big role in the 1988 premiership and it’s great that we can celebrate both on the same day.”
Stick around after the game and listen to the smooth sounds of an acoustic guitar coupled with scintillating vocals by one of Australia’s most respected musicians James Morley.
Morley achieved fame as a member of legendary Aussie band and Australian Hall of Fame inductees The Angels, during their most successful period in which they achieved Multi Platinum Album sales and sat at the top of the Australian Charts.
Subiaco encourages all fans to help create a ‘sea of blue’ at Medibank Stadium by wearing cyan blue.
