The Subiaco Colts have hit a speed-bump amongst their 2013 finals ambitions with a 48 point loss to the Perth Demons at Brownes Stadium.
The undermanned Lions trailed at every break; struggling to reel back the lead from the Demons after a slow first quarter.
Jordan Bestry and Aaron Summers were shining lights in the loss with three goals each; and Connor Wilkinson was prominent in the middle with 29 disposals.
A FEW DOWN:
The Colts have been hit hard by a long list of absences. From goal-kickers to midfield maestros; Subiaco’s depth has truly been tested. Although injuries are devastating, it gives some of the fringe players a chance to shine and gain experience. Steve Armstrong would be happy with the effort brought to the table against a far more experienced Perth side; with two more debutants Nathan Stewart and Jeremy Woodley getting their first taste of Colts football.
ON A SUMMERS DAY:
Aaron Summers knows where the goals are. The pacey wingman shone against the Demons with three goals and a handful of possessions to supply one of his best games as a Colt. Look for Summers to spend more time around the goals this year.
Despite the loss; you can’t say the Lions didn’t take their opportunities. With 10 goals and only one behind, the 90.9% goal kicking accuracy is the highest for the Lions this year. Looks like ex-West Coast Eagles premiership player and head coach Steve Armstrong has taught his young side some tricks; with Army’s kicking his best facet during his spell in the AFL.
The Colts will turn their attention East Fremantle at Shark Park next week; the game a must win to hold their position on the ladder.
GOALS: Bestry, Summers 3; Davis; Edwards, Deluca
BEST: C.Wilkinson, J.Scafidi, C.Buscall, J.Woodley, J.Bestry
