Garcia wins Taylor Medal
- Tuesday, 18 September 2012
James Garcia has claimed the Taylor medal for the Colts Best and Fairest Award, some 20 points ahead of the second placed Dylan Clarke.
The award is the perfect finish for the 19 year old, who burst onto the scene in 2012.
After 12 games of averaging 20 disposals in Colts football, Garcia was elevated into senior football in Round 15.
After a trio of eye-catching performances for the reserves side, the midfielders’ meteoric rise was completed when he was selected for the League side in round 19.
Garcia did not disappoint, displayed in the best on ground column with 18 disposals and six marks in a loss at Swan Districts.
But his impressive debut for the League side didn’t surprise Colts Head Coach Steve Armstrong.
“James Garcia is one of those guys that that plays a lot bigger than he actually is,” said Armstrong.
“Whenever there was a 50-50 contest, you could almost guarantee Garcia would get the result and set up play for the side.”
“It’s exciting for a coach to have those kinds of players in your side, the guys you can rely on to get a job done.”
