Lions sink Royals
- Saturday, 30 June 2012
The Lions have ground out a thrilling one point victory against East Perth this morning, defeating their co-tenants 12.4 (76) to 10.15 (75).
The win was set up by a starring performance by Kyle Halligan in the third, who mustered eight disposals and three goals to put Subi in the lead going into the last.
Key performances also came from Will Fetherstonhaugh (22 disposals), Dylan Clarke (17 disposals 2 goals) and Charles Le Fanu (21 disposals), which were crucial in the absence of leading midfielders Dom Sheed, Mitch Harvie and James Garcia.
Kyle Halligan probably had his best game of the year today, changing the momentum in the third quarter to the Lions favour. The key winger gathered eight disposals and kicked three goals in the premiership quarter to startle the Royals, who failed to stop his run all game.
Fetherstonhaugh’s is becoming a consistent contributor to Subiaco’s midfield and another good performance today was crucial due to the absence of key players. He’s good under pressure and moved the ball well today.
Somers had a big impact today running off the half-back line, contributing to a lot of Subiaco’s run. Makes a formidable partnership with Declan Jackson roaming the backline.
The most outstanding facet of Subi’s game today was probably their accuracy. The Lions were out-numbered in both scoring shots and disposals but were able to make East Perth pay with a accuracy rate of 75%/ Subi converted 12 of their 16 scoring shots whereas the Royals only converted 10 of 25.
This week sees James Garcia knocked of his Dream Team perch; the new champion is Kyle Halligan who amassed 111 points, one of the highest scores this year.
