GOLDFIELDS have gone down in the grand-final to Great Southern in the Great Southern Colts carnival held in Lake Grace over the weekend.
The final score 14.11 (95) to 7.10 (52).
Goldfields led for much of the grand final but let the lead slip late and ran out of legs as injuries took their toll.
Subiaco were in attendance to support their zone with Player Development Officer Jeff Lind, Board Member Gary Peach and trainer Mick Bailey making the trip to Lake Grace.
The Lions country zones represented in the carnival by Goldfields Colts and Esperance Football League.
The trip was designed for Subiaco to support their country zone and also provide the pathway for talented juniors in the area to WAFL football.
PDO Lind was impressed with the performance of many of the youngsters and invited a select group to come up and join the Colts system this year and another handful next season.
Brian Clinch was one played cited by Lind as an excitement machine.
Jordan Delbridge and Levi Dellar also impressed with their performances and will join Clinch as players likely to come up to Perth to participate in the Colts program.
Delbridge left an impression from just one game played due to a groin problem.
Goldfields won their other two fixtures across the weekend.
They thumped Ongerup 25.24 (174) to 1.0 (6) in round one before a more tightly contested 8.11 (59) to 9.2 (54) win over Clontarf in the second round.
Esperance went down to Clontarf 18.17 (125) to 4.7 (31) in the first round but came back with a 12 goal win over Ongerup.
They finished sixth after a nine-goal fifth-placed playoff game loss to Upper Great Southern.
The Great Southern Carnival has been played since 1922 with Colts a part of the Carnival since 1949.
The event generally played at Lake Grace.
The club would like to thank Jeff Lind, Gary Peach and Mick Bailey for their efforts in attending the Great Southern Colts Carnival.
