2012 Subiaco 16s Talent Program Wrapped Up

Subiaco played its final game in the WAFL 16s carnival yesterday (Tuesday) and that then wound up the SFC 16s Academy program.

The last game was against top team East Perth and up until three quarter time Subi was well and truly in the game, trailing by just two goals.  The Royals kicked in the last quarter to win by 34 points.

Subiaco 10.7  (67)

At the conclusion of the program Player Development Officer, Jeff Lind, thanked Coach John Batten and his assistant coaches for the outstanding job they did.  Also special thanks goes to Jodie Summers (Team Manager), Scott Flood (Trainer) and Kim Booth (Runner).  Jeff highlighted that Subiaco played 44 players over the six games.  This is far more than in previous years and ensured that as many boys as possible were exposed to anelite level of football training and games.

The program has been running for three months and involves a set curriculum that covers the areas of physical preparation, skill development, nutrition and recovery, personal development, athlete and career education and key AFL policies.  The program started with an information meeting in December, a camp in January, 3 months of training, testing at ECU Joondalup and an in service education day at Medibank Stadium.  The results of games are not considered to be relevant in the big scheme of development, otherwise we could have stuck with our top 25-28 players.

Where to from here – approx. six boys will be invited to join the Colts full time, another 4 or so will train part-time with the Colts and the boys have been offered to attend supervised strength training throughout the year in preparation for the pre-season with Colts in 2013.  Additionally all of this 16s group will train with the Colts in a two week blockin the July school holidays.

Some of the players to standout throughout the programs were Tom Hooper, Cody Grace, Connor Wilkinson, Tim Edwards, Josh Deluca, Joel Warner, Ben Evans, Alex Coe, James Booth, Callan Green, Brennan Pearce, Jacob Crupi, Adam Swain, Max Walters, Aaron Summers, Adam Creeper, Jake Brady, Nathan Adler and Jaydan Barber.  The Club believes we have the nucleus of some exciting players coming through.
