The Coastal Titans are one win away from securing a fourth WAWFL division one premiership on Sunday morning at Subiaco Oval.

Finals football traditionally takes place in September around many Australian clubs but the WAWFL is heating up in its final week of competition.

The Titans are yet to taste defeat this season and are boosted by 2008 Fairest and Best, Deanne Coates; Rookie of the Year, Nicole Bolton; and Highest Goal Scorer, Loren Fricker.

Coastal Titans President Sarah Jaggard said the injection of new players, a stronger emphasis on fitness and the core group of senior players had contributed to the team’s success this year.

“The added pressure of being undefeated is there but we have dealt with this before in our second and third seasons when we won the premiership, so we have some confidence as well in this situation,” Ms Jaggard said.

“Our biggest aim at the club is to take out the division one and two premiership because no other team has achieved that.”

The allure of a grand final at Subiaco Oval is sure to stir up nervous energy from both sides being the first game in women’s football to be held on an AFL ground.

“We are really excited to play footy on such a big oval like Subiaco and use it as a positive showcase for women’s football,” Ms Jaggard said.

More excitement was created when Deane Coates was announced the division one fairest and best player for the second time in her 11-year career.

Coates said she was honoured and surprised by the award but remained focused on Sunday’s grand final.

“I enjoy the physical side off playing against Swan Districts but I’m just going to play my own game and run hard,” Ms Coates said.

The Coastal Titans take on Swan Districts at 11:30 Sunday August 17 at Subiaco Oval.
