League Coaches Report - Round 2 vs Claremont
Written by Jaclyn Davenport
Last weeks win over
Our defensive pressure was very good and limited the impact many
Through the midfield Phil Read, Daniel Rich and Adam Cockie showed great defensive qualities with some terrific tackling, Shaun Hildebrandt’s hard running was a feature and the penetrating kicking of Kyal Horsley placed the Tigers defence under pressure.
The forward line looked dangerous at times but some missed opportunities and the number of players back playing in our half of the ground at times made scoring difficult. Trent Dennis-Lane is continuing to show improvement with four crumbing goals and defensive work becoming a highlight. Brad Smith and Blake Broadhurst were solid options all night and contested the ball strongly.
The trend for opposing sides already this year is to place large numbers of players behind the ball and congest our forward 50. We welcome the challenge of dealing with this strategy. The more sides do this the better we will become. We are getting plenty of practice!
The side had good contribution from all players but as would be expected there is much room for improvement at this stage of the year. With a number of senior players close to returning competition for a place in the side is tough so all players are looking for good performances to consolidate their position in the side.. We look forward to the Sunday clash against the Sharks at home this week.
