Rd 22 v East Perth - Colts Coach's Report
Saturday morning the Subiaco colts pulled off an unbelievable win over East Perth. After matching it with East Fremantle in the second half last week they showed themselves & the supporters they can play an exciting brand of football & that brand was showcased on Saturday as they ran out winners by scoring a 138-point victory at Medibank Stadium. The colts piled on an amazing 27 goals in the final 3 quarters to win 29.14 (188) to 7.8 (50).
Chris Deluca finished with 6 goals 5 & 28 possessions. Rhys Waters also finished the game with 6 goals & 24 possessions while Nick Hay chipped in with 5 goals after being moved forward after quarter time. East Perth got the jump early in the first quarter kicking the first 2 goals. We kicked two late goals to level the scores at quarter time. The second started with a bang as we started to dominate through the midfield. Chris Deluca had a purple patch & was on fire in the second quarter kicking 4 goals. Jones, Waters & Hay all kicked 2 each for the term as we opened the flood gates kicking 12 goals as we extended our lead to 74 points at Half Time. An amazing quarter of football, with our pressure up forward a highlight. We also had 14 to 3 inside 50’s showing our dominance through the middle.
The third quarter started in the same fashion as we continued to play an exciting brand of football. Our run and carry from defence was great & our midfield used the ball well setting up some great passages of play. We extended our lead to 92 points heading into the main break.
Being on the receiving end of a few thrashings this year the boys defiantly didn’t want to take their foot of the pedal as the piled on another 9 goals in the last quarter to run out 138 point winners. A great team effort and one the boys should be very proud of their performance.
James Garcia (20 possessions) was fantastic all day along with Justin Joyce (22 Possessions) & Christian Bottechia (21 possessions) off Half Back. Only having won three games before this round, the boys have been doing it pretty tough this year and was great to see them put a game like that together. They deserved the win & gives them confidence going into the final game of the year against South Fremantle next week.
